COLLABORATIVE PROJECT BETWEEN LITTFEST IN UMEA, SWEDEN AND KROKODIL IN BELGRADE, SERBIA
The project aims to promote democratic values and human rights through a literary and cultural exchange between Sweden and Serbia.
Both countries face increasing pressure from reactionary forces, highlighting the need to amplify underrepresented voices and promote freedom of expression through cultural dialogue. Peripheral regions often lack access to international networks, and marginalized authors struggle to reach wider audiences. Literary exchange can offer new platforms for addressing shared social and political challenges.
The project will convene literary professionals from both countries for gatherings in Belgrade and Gothenburg, followed by a festival exchange showcasing authors in each setting. Six Swedish writers will participate in month-long residencies in Belgrade, engaging in workshops, mentoring, and public events. These activities aim to foster collaboration, strengthen networks, and promote inclusive literary discourse on democracy and fundamental rights.
The project is funded by the Swedish Institute.
